The May 2025 report analyzes data from the ISCE survey conducted in April 2024, focusing on Italian consumers' use and adoption of modern generative artificial intelligence (AI).
The Note presents the main findings of a study conducted by L. Gambacorta, T. Jappelli, and T. Oliviero, which examines the diffusion of AI in Italy. It offers insights into the population’s familiarity with AI tools, their frequency of use, the likelihood of adoption across various domains, and estimates of the earnings associated with their use in the workplace. The results indicate that 76% of Italians aged 18 to 75 are aware of these new AI tools, and about 37% had used them at least once in the preceding 12 months. Both awareness and usage tend to decline with age and increase with income and education levels. The study also estimates that the use of AI is associated with an average earnings increase of approximately 2%.
